Sorry we have been very dilatory recently but I will make a major round up post of 2011.  Thank you for support over the last year, we really appreciate it.

BOXFIELD EXHIBITION

November 6, 2011 at 2:14 pm | Posted in Exhibition, News, Photography, Publicity, Update | 3 Comments

Sorry to be so dreadfully dilatory about posting, but we have been rather busy recently.  This period culminated on 20th October which saw the opening of our latest exhibition.

We are currently “up” in the Boxfield Gallery, Gordon Craig / Stevenage Leisure Centre.  It is a wonderful space and (though I say it myself) shows our work off magnificently.  You can get an idea from the little slide show below.

The opening was a select affair, but fun and gave us the opportunity to talk in depth with those who came which was a joy. It is always wonderful to get feedback particularly if it is both good and useful!  Currently there are some lovely comments being left (thank you if you made any of them) and we have sold a couple of pieces.  Suffice to say – we want to encourage you to visit, and find a unique Christmas present.

Our work is at Boxfield  until 20th November 2011, so you still have a couple of weeks left.  The gallery is open 7 days a week, you can even have a coffee or your lunch break sitting amongst the work.

Go on give it a go, you know you want to really!

Phew-Busy Times

I am so, so sorry that we haven’t posted anything for so long, but we have had busy times!  Hence the title.  Now let me see what has been happening – well yes our exhibition has now finished and was successful, in that we made a number of sales and importantly the Museum itself was very happy with the traffic it generated and would be happy to have us again and we received a number of really positive comments in the visitors book.  We really appreciate people taking time to let us know what they think of our work.  Thank you

Oh, also this image was the Hertfordshire County winner, in The Hertfordshire Life, Great British Countryside competition.  It was predominately featured in the magazine’s current edition, getting the index thumbnail and a nice  little piece on the page.

County round winner in The Archant Group -Great British Countryside Photo Competition

Unfortunately, was beaten at the regional level by a rather good picture of an owl in flight in the daylight…. Ah well, as usual animals win over views…to be fair it was rather good.

Anyway apart from that, the website is generating some sales again which is also good.

In addition to this we had a stall at the recent Community Day held at the Centre for the Arts in Hitchin, which also generated some interest.

Now we are focussing on the next exhibition in October in Stevenage, so watch this space for further information.

Now funnily enough we do have other activities in our lives, one of them being paid work, latterly for Mo at North Herts College, which she has now said good bye to being one of those recently made redundant.  But do not despair, she is soon to take up a really exciting short term post with Hertford Regional College – using the Health & Safety strand of her work.  In addition to this, she spent last week completing and achieving “Adobe Certified Associate” status in Photoshop CS5.  Agh,  nearly forgot that she is also currently undertaking an assessors qualification.

So as I started with – Phew-busy times.

Not quite sure where the rest of the time has gone, but this year is galloping past at a rate of knots. I guess the last thing I need to let you know, is that we are busy developing our business, so please watch this space for further information over the following months.

By the way, last, but definitely not least, Geo has been completely consumed with building an album of music…….Yes, yet another of his talents and another strand to the MoGeo Brand.

Thanks for your time – we will try to be in touch a bit sooner, but forgive us if there is a gap whilst the rest of our lives gets in the way of the MoGeo adventure.

EXHIBITION-BITS & BOBS, HERE & THERE

So I hear you all ask, has it happened?

Well the answer is YES the exhibition is currently up and available to see at  Hitchin Museum, from now until 16th July (inclusive).  Be there or be square or round or oblong (or just plain boring for not visiting!)

The opening Private View was a busy and fun evening as you can see from this little slide show (pictures courtesy of Prof. Richard Wrangham as we were rather busy!).

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The business of exhibiting is a nail biting thing from start to finish.  Its true – the images are chosen, framed, priced, catalogued delivered, and hung; but now comes the wondering how often we should “pop in” to see what has sold.  Do we go daily, weekly, hourly or not at all?  We seem to have gone in about weekly so far…but it is becoming tempting to visit much more regularly!

And yes, before you ask, some have sold (yippee!!) in fact a couple were sold at the Private View, of course they are all still there for you to view, so don’t worry about there being “holes” in the show.

As for the title, well we hope that it tells you that this is a sample from across our portfolio.  I know it is fashionable to theme exhibitions, but we made a conscious decision that we did not want to do that, as we wanted to show the full flavour of what we have to offer; as it is, we’ve only been able to show a very small portion.  So there is plenty for the next show.

That’s right, in the good tradition that you should be starting to organise the next before the current has finished, we are busy working on our next show, which was going to be March 2012, but is now taking place in October 2011 in Stevenage.

Please do go and see this one (remember Hitchin Museum, till 16th July) and then let us know what you think and what you think we should do with the next show…..

  • Should we theme it?
  • Partially theme it (eg by wall)?
  • Only show black and white/sepia images?
  • Should one of us be there to talk to the viewing public?
  • If so, how often?
  • Or any other suggestions you can think of!

We really would appreciate your feedback and suggestions, then we can ensure that what we are doing is what is really wanted!

In the meantime, “hasta banana” (to quote a very good friend)-maybe we will see you up at Hitchin Museum.

Yes – Finally the promised information!

See Below  The time for our exhibition is fast approaching; we are still madly rushing round doing all those last minute things – checking pricing, putting price list together.  Bagging all those images that we are offering unframed, checking all the framed images ……………………. and all that kind of stuff.  We are even still waiting for some to come back from the framers….HELP!!!!! They know the deadline (Monday 6th June deadline for delivery to the Museum for hanging!) and have assured us that they will be done.

Deep breath – all will be well. -

Hasta la vista, Baby!!!

What to Exhibit

April 16, 2011 at 1:17 pm | Posted in News, Publicity, Update, Website | 1 Comment

I have been very remiss this year, sorry not have have posted as regularly as before, but somehow we seem to have been running out of days; not having exclusive access to my computer has not helped-currently having to share with my job hunting son.  Still I am now musing on a more pressing issue -

How to choose what to exhibit!

I am sure I have mentioned previously, we have an exhibition at Hitchin Museum, coming up rather rapidly now.  We are currently wrestling with the desperate problem of what to include.  There is space for anything between 20-40 images, depending on size/shape, and density of  display.

What methods are there available for whittling the list down?  The ones we have thought of include:-

  • Using what is already printed/printed and framed
  • Using a theme for example – subject, colour, size, location, season……
  • Random choice from each others portfolio
  • Select a “must include” list for our own portfolios and then add together

Thus far we have looked at what is already printed/printed and framed, and then agreed to put together lists from our individual portfolios.  My list totals 20 all on its own, (needless to say I keep on finding others that I have forgotten) still awaiting Geo’s list …. so now you have the gist of our problem.

Oh dear, we are not much further forward!  Meanwhile time marches on – we have to produce a definitive list soon for the catalogue, which will of course mean sorting out pricing.  In addition we have said we want to design our own publicity.  Last, but by no means least, we also have to put together our guest list for the opening party which is the same evening as another exhibition in the Museum.  From memory the other exhibition is for Rhythms of the World, so we have agreed to share consumables with them.  If we are right, then we maximise our opening exposure; as ROTW (9th & 10th July) is celebrating its 20th festival, so one imagines the great and the good of the locality are likely to attend their opening.

So-for now any helpful thoughts you might have, will be gratefully received, maybe you could look at our website and flickr feed to see what you think we should include from there.

Oh Yes - Update on the  broken lens-the quotation of £70, suddenly grew to over £200, guess what?  The lens is not worth repairing, but will have to be replaced, so photography recently has been somewhat limited.  Anyway a further moral of that tale……Get insurance, oh and make sure that it includes accidental damage by household pets!

However, I think we have enough on our plates as it is!  We will give you all, final information on the exhibition nearer the time, for now Bye.

The Joy of Pets-A Cautionary Tale!

March 2, 2011 at 7:19 pm | Posted in News, Questions | Leave a comment

Well this year seems to be going far too fast, March already and only the 3rd blog of the year….sorry I have been so dilatory, there really is no excuse I can offer.  However back to the title of this offering… the tale goes as follows:-

Once upon a Sunday, I decided to do some work-photographing paperweights using a light box.  There after ensued a very delightful 2-3 hours ( not sure how long) of myself and Geo playing with different ideas, here are couple of samples, some of the better results .

Once we finished, I was putting or rather trying to put the camera away, with the “help” of the dog, who’s idea was to jump up as I took the camera off my neck-Yes you are right the result was that the camera was knocked to the floor!  Even though it is a carpeted floor, guess what, yes-again you are right, after some heart wrenching moments ones worst fear were realised-something broken, after considerable investigation it transpired to be the lens.  Now one could say lucky for me it was the kit lens that Geo’s D80 came with, not one of the others that he has paid a lot of money for, but still…. After a trip to the camera shop on Monday, we are now the proud possessors of a quotation for repair of £70…..plus possible additional parts.

So what do we feel the moral of this tale should be?  From my perspective – NEVER be handling your camera, however carefully, when there are bouncing dogs in the vicinity.  Of course this is easy to say and to see that the combination would be quite likely to produce some sort of camera disaster, but we all know that we do take the risk…..well guess what?  Mo shall not be doing so again-I don’t think my budget could stand it.

Aside from this untimely drama, we have been rather quiet on the photographic front.  Geo having been very busy with music and putting together mixes, he is now working on something else, which seems to necessitate a lot of disappearing into headphones added to a lot of expletives issuing forth, apparently caused by uncooperative software.

It would be interesting to hear if any of you have had any similar pet induced camera dramas.  I should add that this incident is the second time that the dog concerned has been involved with cameras-although not having been present the first time I am not inclined for her to carry the blame on that occasion.  I fear that it had more to do with the state of inebriation of the camera-man (not Geo I must stress).  However it does make me wonder?

Slow January

January 27, 2011 at 7:18 pm | Posted in Inspiring People, News, Photography, Update, Website | 1 Comment

The recent weather added to poor health recently for both of us, has resulted in very little new work.  How ever Geo has been working on images from his photo collection and Mo did get out in one of the few dry spells to a combined dog/photo walk.

From this came a few images which will be posted soon to the flickr feed.  We have also been trying to improve the visibility of our website, unfortunately this has resulted in vast amounts of junk emails, oh joy.  Still we shall see if it has any affect over the following weeks.

Below is a small taster of one of Mo’s recent images, which (it has to be said) has been heavily photoshopped, but as it often the way this result was arrived at rather by mistake, but we are quite pleased with the over all effect.  Photoshop CS5, is a marvellous update on the previous versions, and we have even had to get a book or two to help us maximise the benefits.  So (as they say) Watch this Space and see what turns up!

In the mean time, more exhibition news, it would appear we have benefited from some scheduling issues and you Hitchin museum show will be on for 10 days extra!

One more thing Mo is getting rather worried, as her young nephew, who has recently been skiing is showing himself to have a rather good eye for composition.  If I can get his permission, I will post a couple of examples of his work here for you to see.  But seriously I have been very impressed with his work, so go for it, is what I say to him!!

2011

January 3, 2011 at 5:21 pm | Posted in Inspiring People, News, Photography, Update, Website | Leave a comment

Well, here we are, 2011 has arrived.  We hope that it is a good and prosperous year for us all!

This is not a major post, just a quick one to say we hope you all had an enjoyable festive time and are looking forward to the coming year as much as we are.

We shall be having a busy one, if only because or our up coming exhibition.  Although there is 6 months to go, we must not let the “grass grow under our feet”, otherwise we’ll not be organised in time.  Anyway, no doubt we will tell you a lot more about the exhibition as the opening draws nearer.  So roll on June (not that I am wishing the year away!).

We will post something a bit more controversial soon; possibly after we have visited the Photographic Societies Convention in a couple of weeks time.

If you are craving work to look at in the meantime, don’t forget to check out the recent additions to our Flickr feed.  We will also be updating the website soon as well, so watch this space for further information.
